Environmental Certification Center of State
Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) of China was founded
in 2002. The center was approved by SEPA and it is adapted to the
new situation of the development of the market economy after the entrance
of WTO and the environmental certification work. The major tasks of
the center is the certification work in the environmental field mainly
and the other related fields, which includes Environmental Management
System Certification, Environmental Labeling
Product Certification, Occupational Safety and Health Management System
Certification, Organic Food Certification etc. And with the requirement
of the state environmental management and development of the market,
the center will expand new certification service fields correspondingly.

Environmental Certification Center of SEPA is the unique certification
organization in the system of SEPA and it will be a Beijing-centered environmental
certification network through setting up the sub-organizations in the
whole country. The center concentrates the environmental certification
resources and policy and technology advantages in the domestic environmental
protection system. The center aims to be a national-level environmental
certification organization in which has ¡°concentrated resource, normative
management, advanced technology and large scale¡±. It also intends to be
an authoritative and outstanding label of environmental certification
in domestic and overseas.
Under directly supervision of the SEPA, the center starts
its works on the base of international criteria, related standards, national
laws and regulations. The main responsibilities of the center are making
the policies, objectives and developing programs, making great efforts
to the service for the state environmental management. Creating, running
and maintaining the quality assurance system, providing the certificating
services with impartiality, objectivity, preciseness and authority. Making
the certificating technology principles and relative criteria, keeping
improvement of certification quality and certifiers¡¯
professional ability. Promoting the influence and publicity of certifications,
expanding the service fields. Following up the development of international
criteria and certificating technology, developing and researching the
new project actively with multi-parties technology cooperation.
